Celebrating Dedication and Impact in the CVSD Community

I was honored to attend the Cumberland Valley Eagle Foundation's annual recognition dinner last Friday evening. It was a privilege to present a citation to Ms. Colleen Staton for being named the 2025 Commitment to Excellence Award Recipient and hear about the ways she has impacted the Cumberland Valley School District community during her years of service.

I am always happy to support our local schools, including the students, teachers and families who keep them going. I would also like to congratulate the Building Stars and wish them luck as we round out this school year!

Opening Day Fun with UAMBA!

On Sunday, the Upper Allen Mechanicsburg Baseball Association kicked off its 2025 season with a fantastic “Opening Day” celebration—and it did not disappoint!

It was a joy to meet the players and families, and an honor to present official citations to the 2024 8U and 10U championship teams. Opening day is always a highlight of the season, and I’m already looking forward to next year. Until then, best of luck to all the teams this season!

Building a Brighter Future for Pennsylvania – One Conversation at a Time

It was a pleasure to speak at the Carlisle Chamber’s Sunrise with State Representatives Breakfast this week. We discussed a wide array of topics, from the budget, economic development, education and keeping Pennsylvania competitive with other states.

My votes as a legislator are cast with one thing in mind: making Pennsylvania a better place to live, work and raise a family. I am committed to helping our communities reach their fullest potential.

Building a More Competitive Pennsylvania

I had the opportunity to join the Pennsylvania Competitiveness Caucus Regional Roundtable on Tuesday afternoon at the Utz factory, one of Pennsylvania’s iconic companies, and a reminder of the kind of economic strength and staying power we have to offer.

We had a productive and open conversation about how our Commonwealth can sharpen its edge in a global economy – through smarter investment in workforce development, innovation and infrastructure. I’m proud to be part of a bipartisan group focused on ensuring Pennsylvania stays competitive and future-ready for generations to come.

Stay Alert in Work Zones

Next week, April 21-25, is National Work Zone Awareness Week, a time to remind drivers to be cautious, alert and respectful while traveling through areas of roadway and bridge construction. This year’s theme is “Respect the Zone So We All Get Home.”

When you encounter work zones, PennDOT offers the following tips: drive the posted work zone speed limit; stay alert and pay attention to signs and flaggers; maintain a safe distance around vehicles; use flashers if traveling slowly; avoid distractions; and be patient.

State law requires motorists to travel with their headlights on in all posted work zones, not just active work zones. Daytime running lights are not sufficient; drivers must have their headlights on to also activate their taillights.

Drivers also should be aware that interstate work zones with a project cost exceeding $300,000 will have a speed-monitoring device to alert motorists of their speed prior to entering the work zone.

For more information about work zone safety, click here. Remember: The men and women working on our roadways are parents, children, siblings and spouses. They deserve to return home from work each day safely.

Donate Life Month

April is Donate Life Month, an opportunity to raise awareness about the growing need for organ donation across the Commonwealth and the country. According to Donate Life PA, 16 people on average die each day while waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.

Across the country, more than 100,000 people are waiting for a transplant to save their lives, and more than 4,000 are added to the waiting list each month. In Pennsylvania alone, more than 6,000 people are on the waiting list for a life-saving organ transplant.

About 5 million Pennsylvanians have added the donor designation to their driver’s license, learner’s permit or state identification card, but this represents only half of those eligible to register. If you’d like to register as an organ donor, you may sign up here. You are also encouraged to let your loved ones know of your wishes.

Protecting Children from Abuse

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. While state laws have identified people, such as teachers, health care providers and clergy members, who are mandated to report suspected cases of abuse, we all have a role to play in protecting our children.

Signs of potential physical, sexual or emotional abuse or neglect may include sudden changes in a child’s behavior or school performance; being overly compliant, passive or withdrawn; always watchful, as though preparing for something bad to happen; and a reluctance to be around a particular person or to return home from school or activities.

If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, call PA ChildLine at 1-800-932-0313.
