Cumberland County Wildfires Update

On the evening of April 25, I joined a Cumberland County Public Safety briefing as our first responders continue to work to contain fires in the Michaux State Forest. I’m immensely grateful for the over 100 agencies and over 500 personnel fighting the fires as well as the countless other agencies covering stations across our region to answer the daily 9-1-1 calls still coming in. I’m also grateful for the dispatchers, responders, and countless volunteers spending time away from their families who have answered the call.

There are still two active fires, one outside of Shippensburg and the other in Dickinson Township about two miles west of Mt. Holly Springs.

A few important notes: please do not try to enter the area or hike the Appalachian Trail. It is critical for safety and our first responders spend time and resources on fighting the fires and prevent injury and loss of life.

PEMA and DCNR are on site as well and county officials are also monitoring the situation closely. 

Officials have shared that they have all of the food and water they need for the moment—thank you to the community for stepping up!

Here’s how else you can help: these volunteer companies need to replenish fuel and other supplies and officials are asking that if you wish to help, that you donate to your local fire company. Here are the companies in the 87th District where you can direct resources:
